Yifan Zhu

Yifan Zhu obtained both his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from INSA Lyon and Université Catholique de Louvain respectively. 

His current research topic is "Upcycling Of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) Through Micro-Reinforcement For Use In High-Value Application". The objective of his project is to upcycle the available PET plastic waste stream from Agfa by using micro-reinforcing structures and eventually adapting the molecular design of the polyester itself. Through these reinforcements/modifications, a hybrid composite material is created which can be used for high-performance and high added value applications: strings for racket sports (Luxilon) and 3D-printed objects (Tenco DDM bvba and Belgian Cycling Factory).
