Lincy Pyl
Biography
Lincy Pyl (Orchid 0000-0001-7509-1718) received her Master in Civil Engineering degree from KULeuven, Belgium, and the Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from the Structural Mechanics Section. Since 2011, she has been with the Department of Mechanics of Materials and Constructions, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, where she currently is an Associate Professor.
She has been active over the last 20 years in the design of lightweight structures meeting requirements regarding strength and stiffness, in the study of the mechanical performance of innovative materials, and of the effect of extreme loads on the behaviour of materials and structures. Her studies comprise analytical and numerical modelling as well as experimental work.
She was elected as a member of the scientific advisory board of SECO, a select group of academia a.o. advising the engineers of SECO (audit and 3rd party services in the construction industry) in complex problems. She is appointed as a member of TC250-SC3 of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) dedicated to the design of steel structures and as Belgian representative in the Working Group 3 (WG3) on cold-formed members and sheeting. She is member of the Secure with Steel network, which was built up by ArcelorMittal. She published 65 Web of Science papers, (h-index 15), is (co-) author of about 65 conference articles and wrote about 5 book chapters. She is editor of the Dutch version of the three Hibbeler books from Pearson Benelux: Statics, Dynamics, and Strength of materials.
