Ahmad Shawki Charkieh

Ahmad Shawki Charkieh obtained a bachelor of engineering in civil engineering from RHU in Lebanon. He then graduated with a masters degree in Civil Engineering from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Université Libre de Bruxelles.

His current research topic is "Study of the mechanical performance of fibre-reinforced polymer matrix composites produced using 3D-printing techniques". The focus of his research is upcycling of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) through micro-reinforcement for use in high-value application. The project develops potential high-performance products for Luxilon, Tenco DDM bvba and Belgian Cycling Factory, where Ahmad works along with researchers from VUB, UGent and Centexbel.
